1980’s

One man, a basement, and a dream. Ghostbusters… Walkman… Rubik’s cubes… a lot of great stuff happened in the late 80s; including Hank Rothfield setting up shop out of his basement in 1987. This is where the Rothfield dream began, with a handful of prestigious clients—Cato Design, John Holland and Repco—and a small team of ambitious and dedicated people to help create something brilliant.

1990’s

Movin’ on up If the 80s were all about dreams, the 90s were all about growth. Our team tripled in size and we soon had offshore support in China. Our expanding business required a number of upscales to bigger and better warehouse spaces – from a small office in Malvern, to a purpose-built, 900 square metre facility in Mt Waverley. Our client list was growing too—including Coles Myer, Commonwealth Bank, City of Melbourne and Qantas.

2000’s

Our digital revolution A new century heralded a new way of doing things and our business was at the forefront of the growing need for digital solutions. We installed computer network nationally for a division of the Australian Tax Office to enable print management services and launched our second-generation management and electronic artwork systems. And as well as cementing our expansion into NSW and QLD, we also welcomed Carlton United Breweries, Terry White Pharmacy and Tatts as new clients.

2010’s

Disruption and diversification The 2010’s were certainly not the typical angsty teenage years for us - In addition to adding Victorian Tafe, the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, and a major Sydney based global pharmaceutical manufacturer to our client list, we also harnessed new technologies through the launch of our third-generation management tool. We diversified our facilities and services with the opening of our Sydney warehouse, new digital print centres in Melbourne and Sydney, and the acquisition of a direct mail business.

2020 & beyond

Delivering our future Our world is changing at a speed never before experienced in history, and we're ready to meet the demands of the exciting and challenging future of communications and logistics. Along with significant upgrades to our digital printing facilities in Melbourne and Sydney, we've relaunched our brand identity and website to demonstrate our commitment to this evolution-and the exciting work yet to be done.

Delivering responsibly

We care deeply about the impact we have on the environment and our communities. Our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility is underpinned by our passion to to deliver positive change.

Our environment.

Environmental responsibility plays an important role in every aspect of our business—and we take it seriously. We take every opportunity to minimise our environmental impact, both directly within our business and through responsible procurement practices.

Our footprint. We think ‘being green’ needs less talk and more walk, so in addition to working towards a more energy efficient business, we’ve also introduced Climate Friendly Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) offsets. To date, more than 1500 certified VCS projects have collectively reduced or removed more than 200 million tonnes of carbon and other GHG emissions from the atmosphere.

Ink and paper. The shift towards greater environmental awareness in the print industry has lead to product innovation that aims to reduce harm to the environment. We encourage our suppliers to use soy or vegetable oil-based inks that are free from Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and papers that originate only from renewable forests and produced in accredited mills. We reject papers that originate in areas of environmental concern.

Our communities.

We play an active role in our community by partnering with a number of not-for-profit organisations. From the Australian Childhood Foundation—a cause very close to our heart—who work tirelessly to provide essential support for children in need; to the St Vincent de Paul Society, who assist people in need and combat social injustice across Australia; to the Melbourne Prize Trust, who provide financial and professional development opportunities to artists—we are proud of these enduring relationships and the positive impact we’re helping to create.
